At the time of the fight, Tete was known for his technical ability, height, reach, possessed an impressive Jab, and he had a record of 28 and 3. Casimero was almost the opposite; an unorthodox boxer, extremely unpredictable, and aggressive but had a reputation for knocking out his opponents. Casimero was the interim WBO bantamweight champion.
